HBB or H10: which hygiene programme to choose?
Short answer
People working directly with food need the HBB and H10 programmes together; those handling food indirectly need only HBB. HBB is the general hygiene skills programme, while H10 is the special programme for working with food.
What does each programme mean?
- HBB — the general hygiene skills programme. Intended for employees who handle food indirectly, primary produce makers and those who handle non-perishable food but do not produce or process it.
- H10 — the special programme for employees whose activity is directly related to processing, handling, transporting, storing, public or collective catering and trade in food (except distance selling and pharmacies).

What other programmes exist?
Besides HBB and H10, depending on the profession special programmes may be required: H1 (education staff), H2 (social workers), H3 (beauty services), H4 (solariums), H5 (sports clubs, pools), H6 (accommodation), H11 (cleaning services), H12 (laundry and dry cleaning), H13 (medical waste handlers).
